Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the savings groups that is different from other savings groups?

One very important characteristic of savings groups in our program is that they are made not to create dependency. Without injecting funds from outside, they seek to help members pool their resources and grow at their own pace. In the typical Restore Savings Program group, members are guided to own the group and therefore make their own rules. The money saved by the group is the property of the members of the particular savings group and they have control over its use. The group also chooses its own leaders to run its affairs. Every member of the group, knows every other member.

What happens at a typical savings group meeting?

At a typical savings group meeting, members will pray, sing, study something from the Bible, give their savings or receive pay-outs where applicable and support one another as the need arises. Most meetings are held within an hour.

Does Luvjeez MTC take some contributions from savings groups?

Luvjeez MTC does not receive any money from savings groups. We don’t interfere with the savings group’s administration. Our main interest is giving good training to the facilitator who will help start/launch a savings group in his/her church or in the community (with the knowledge of the church leadership).

What kind of training does Luvjeez MTC give and to which kind of people?

Luvjeez MTC gives the Chalmers Centre approved Restore Savings Program to interested students. For now, the initial training is done over a three-day period. After this, the students will be required to meet the trainer for about 2 hours a month over an eighteen-month period for follow-up technical assistance meetings. Prospective students should be able to read and write well and have an interest in helping to restore the poor. We recommend that students who come for the program be people who have received the approval of their church leadership. This ensures that they will be given a free hand to raise or start savings groups when they go back to their parent churches.

What kind of material is used for the training?

The material used is very readable but a trainee has to be introduced to it in order for him/her to make sense of it. Check on our resources page for a soft copy of our current training manual.

Do you train people outside Ghana?

Yes, we do. As long as we can make the necessary logistic commitment, we should be able to train people in any anglophone country in Africa. In case of francophone countries, we have partners in francophone West Africa, who would be only too glad to help you out.

Does Luvjeez MTC give out money to people who want to save?

For now, we don’t give any such start-up capital to any savings groups.

Where is Luvjeez MTC based?

We have our head-office at Pantang, Accra. However, we have people who can train in the Northern Zone (Bolgatanga), the Middle Belt (Brong Ahafo Region and the Coastal Belt (Aflao and Kasoa areas). Check our contacts lists on the contacts page.

What other help does Luvjeez MTC give to people who train with them?

We are committed to helping churches that start the savings groups to succeed. In this regard, we provide some mentoring and monitoring in running the savings groups especially during the time of the follow-up technical assistance meetings. We also provide some skills training to interested participants at reduced cost.

Are there particular periods in the year when trainings are done?

Typically, each training is arranged to suit the convenience of both the trainers and the prospective church or churches. We therefore have trainings throughout the year. Trainings tend to be less around Easter and the Christmas, when many churches have special programs of their own.
